SIS Annual Bowling Tournament 2010

1 August 2010

We participated in a session shared by Mr Wan Imran on Malaysia/Brunei/Indonesia culture, tradition, language and homestay etiquette.

And then SPY05 came to teach us some cheers...

An accident occured near our venue and some of us went forward to assist.

Later in the afternoon, SPY10s joined in the SSEAYP International Singapore Annual Bowling Tournament 2010 at Downtown East.

And that's where an informal Brotherhood was formed.

As the last team, we also won some consolation prizes.

2nd Weekend PDT

31 July 2010

We started off with our inaugural Exco meeting at Telok Ayer Hong Lim Green Community Centre, which dragged a bit too long, before we continued with our singing practice.

Over lunch, we were awed by the occasional flypast of the RSAF Fighter Jets from the NDP Rehearsals near us.

Singapore 2010 Journey of Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF) Torchbearer Briefing

31 July 2010

Went to Singapore Polytechnic for a briefing for the inaugural Singapore 2010 Journey of Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF) Torchbearers.

I got to be selected as a Torchbearer by posting deeds on the MillionDeedsChallenge website. The website was a brainchild of a secondary school student and it encapsulates the three values of the SYOG: Excellence, Friendship and Respect!

Also got to meet up with a friend I met at MillionDeedsChallenge website.

Our torchbearer hosts also enacted a short skit on what is going to happen on the day of our journey.

It's nice to know that I would be part of over 2,000 Singaporeans that would have a chance to carry the flame!

2nd Weekday PDT

29 July 2010

We sang songs for PDT today. Revising through all the familiar local songs, the patriotism level in the room rose...

Exhibition Committee also had something to show to us.

And the Sports & Club Activity Committee gave us a sneak peek to a cool cheer!

1st Weekday PDT

27 July 2010

We met our Orientation Committee Chairperson Gerald Tang at our first weekday Pre-Departure Training. Glad to know he's also from a PAYM YEC.

SNL05 Ramlan also came to interact with SPY10s.

Doesn't this look like a priest's costume?

And so we voted against it as our Attire...

Family Photo

25 July 2010

After the draining PDT, returned home to take family photos before I return my academic dress.

I thought the photos came out interestingly nice, given that we used a timer for the shooting.

1st Residential PDT @ NACLI

24-25 July 2010

Singapore Participating Youths (SPYs) of SSEAYP met at the National Community Leadership Institute (NACLI) for our first residential training.

I really like the names of the rooms at NACLI. Our session was conducted in one of the Tanah Merah room. Well, it reassured me that it's not that far from home even though NACLI is really far.

During our training, I was surprised when I was called out to receive a gift for my efforts in helping revamp the SSEAYP International Singapore website from SIS President William Cheong.

In the evening, we had BBQ dinner! I thought it was a great format since everyone will get to chat with one another as we cook delicious food. Haha, soon it became a mass production line...

After dinner, SPY09 joined us! National Leader Desmond Boey then announced our committees. I was appointed the Head of the Discussion Committee as well as the Webmaster for the contingent.

I got to experience SSEAYP first hand, thanks to my senior Chee Wei (SPY09) who got me to commit to be foster family for 2 PYs last year. And here I am, now myself, a SPY10.

And a symbolic handing over ceremony from SNL09 to SNL10:

Thanks to Sherry who brought some fire sparklers, we got to relive our childhood days. Must be many years since I landed my hands on one...

Sunday morning, we did the flag-raising ceremony and sang our National Anthem with pride.

And had an exciting Captain Ball match!

Punggol Carnival 2010

24 July 2010

The Litter-Free Ambassadors (LFAs) of Eunos Constituency headed off to Punggol Secondary School early in the morning.

The LFAs are part of the National Environment Agency's (NEA) intiative to resolve the litter issues within the community.

The Guest-of-Honour was Mayor Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community, Youth Development & Sports and Transport. In his speech, he expressed his confidence in the Singapore's YOG soccer team and described the strength of the team.

SYOG Mascots Lyo and Merly also danced the Singapore Cheer together with the students.

We also got to meet our counterparts from the North East District!

OAF/1516 Gathering

23 July 2010

Singapore's representatives of One Asia Forum 2009 had a Yuki Yaki buffet gathering at Marina Square!

Getting ready for the photoshoot:

Shouldn't be standing between the love birds. No wonder the lights looked so bright!

Briefing Session for 37th SSEAYP 2010 PDT

22 July 2010

It's been about a month since most of us last met at the teambuilding selection session at Sembawang Camp. I vaguely remember about half of the participants. Hope we would get to know each other more as the training proceeds.

We met at the National Youth Council Conference Room for a briefing session for the Pre-Departure Training (PDT) for the 37th Ship for SouthEast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) 2010.

Over the coming weekend, we would be undergoing our first residential PDT at NACLI, followed with sessions on every Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sun.

The SSEAYP journey begins...
